Dilute a little honey with strong eucalyptus tea
for a homemade cough syrup. 


Eucalyptus is an indigenous flowering tree from the myrtle family. These trees have sturdy trunks and can grow to heights of 100 meters. 

The intense aroma of the eucalyptus leaf is due to the presence of high concentrations of essential oils which are used mainly in balms for relieving muscular and skeletal aches. Compresses with tepid or cool eucalyptus tea also helps eases muscular pain. Gargling with warm eucalyptus tea soothes sore throats.

The essential oils contained in eucalyptus also help fight the common cold and are believed to relieve bronchial pain and coughs.

Preparation: Place 1/2 tsp. eucalyptus in a cup. Add boiling water and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain and serve.

Ward off colds with this enjoyable herbal beverage popular in Greek mountain villages during the winter months. Steep 1/2 tsp. eucalyptus, 1 tsp. mint, 1 Tbs. chamomile, and 1 tsp. honey in a cup of boiling water for 3 to 5 minutes. Strain and serve with a lemon slice.

Eucalyptus is also valued for its cosmetic properties. Compresses with a concoction of warm eucalyptus tea with aniseed and fennel seeds soothe and cleans skin with acne. Drinking eucalyptus tea also helps maintain clear skin as its leaves contain natural compounds that aid in removing toxins from the body and aid kidney and liver function.
